Report: 'The Sharon Osbourne Show' On Last Legs
January 28, 2004Tribune Co.'s station group does not plan to pick up Sharon Osbourne's daytime TV talk show for a second season, a move that all but spells cancellation, the Chicago Tribune is reporting in its January 28 edition.
"We haven't renewed the show," a source at Tribune Co. told the Chicago Tribune (which is owned by Tribune Co.). "We've told them we're not interested."
The show, dubbed "The Sharon Osbourne Show", airs in more than 90 percent of the country, including on 23 Tribune-owned stations. But its ratings have been disappointing, averaging 1.4 this season, according to Nielsen Media Research, and 1.2 for the week ended Jan. 11 (each ratings point represents 1.08 million homes).
In contrast, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", also new this season in daytime, averaged a 1.9 rating for the same week in January.
Some analysts predicted at the show's launch last September that Sharon Osbourne, with her foul-mouthed, hip reputation, would have trouble connecting with the daytime audience of older women. On Tuesday, for instance, the show featured the relatively obscure rock band ROONEY as a musical guest, a move unlikely to attract older women.
